Established in 1974, News from Nowhere is Liverpool’s signature radical and community bookshop. Run on a not for profit basis, the store has been an all-women worker co-operative since the early 1980s. Located halfway down Bold Street since 1995, the store is filled with literature on topics such as socialism, anarchism, feminism, anti-racism, disability rights, the environment, social justice, and LGBTQIA+ liberation, with perspectives from the UK and around the world. More than just a book store, News from Nowhere has been a vital resource for not only the LGBTQ+ community, but other vulnerable groups (hosting events for the likes of lesbian mothers, survivors of sexual violence, and HIV and AIDS support), as well as for progressive campaigns (such as supporting miner’s strikes, and the Against Clause 28 movement).
